Rune Hagalaz (ᚺ): Elder Futhark Rune

Above this source hovers The Dragon Nidhogg, gnawing at the roots of the world tree Yggdrasil. He is neither evil nor kind - he is cleansing. He destroys the old so that the world can live on. His breath brings destruction, but it also frees from the shackles of the past.

It is said that whoever sees the reflection in the waters of Hvergelmir during the destruction of their life will understand the essence of Hagalaz. It is not a punishment or an accident - it is the wind of change, an icy storm that sweeps away all that is false, leaving only the real.

Hagalaz is the storm that comes when the world stands still. It is the thunder that shatters illusion when man lives in self-deception. It is the crisis that crushes weakness but gives strength to those who are able to pass through it.

You cannot escape this rune, but you can accept it.

He who fears Hagalaz trembles before her onslaught. But he who understands her essence knows that after every storm comes a clear sky, after every winter - spring, after every destruction - the birth of a new path.
